Evidence Based Child Sexual Abuse Prevention

Evidence Based Child Sexual Abuse Prevention

Better Futures for Children advocates and supports the dissemination and implementation of evidence based school and after-school child sexual abuse preventions programs, interventions and practices in Kenya.  Effects of child sexual abuse are grave and include STI/HIV infections, teenage pregnancies, trauma and depression leading to suicidal ideation and school dropout, among other effects. While there is no national database of child sexual abuse in Kenya, existing research suggests that 3 out of 10 children and adolescents are sexually abused on a daily basis. School and community stakeholders in Kenya continue to grapple with the problem and consequences of sexual abuse.

Acts of parliaments and related legislations have been developed and implemented to address child sexual abuse menace. School and after-school programs and interventions are designed and implemented to address child sexual abuse problem. However, these interventions are not effective, due to the limited dissemination and implementation of evidence based child sexual abuse strategies in schools and community settings in Kenya.
